Manchester City had previously shown interest in left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, with reports indicating talks between Etihad Stadium officials and Wolverhampton Wanderers for a possible summer move. The possibility of a player-plus-cash swap deal involving Sergio Gomez was also discussed, with Ait-Nouri valued at £60 million by Wolves.
Despite the recent media reports linking Manchester City to Ait-Nouri, insiders suggest that the club had dismissed any interest in the defender prior to his move to Wolves. According to ‘Tolmie’s Hairdoo’, the Etihad officials were ‘bemused’ by the strong links at the time and did not consider the player good enough for the team.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano stated that Manchester City has not yet made plans for a left-back recruit in the upcoming summer transfer window. He also mentioned that any potential signing in that position would be discussed closer to the end of the season, with Wolves likely to make negotiations difficult for City.
