FC Barcelona is reportedly planning to make a move for Manchester City star Erling Haaland. The Spanish giants are eyeing the sensational striker, who has been a standout performer for City since joining the club for £51m in 2022. With an impressive record of 81 goals in 88 appearances across all competitions, Haaland’s goalscoring prowess is undeniable.
Despite some criticism of his general play, particularly from Roy Keane who called him a “League Two player,” Haaland’s value as a striker cannot be disputed. While Man City will look to maximize his time in the Premier League, a move to Spain seems inevitable in the near future, with Barcelona or Real Madrid as likely destinations.
Former Man City scout Bojan Krkic Sr. believes that Haaland has a preference for Barcelona over Madrid. However, Barcelona’s financial constraints may make it challenging for them to secure a deal for the Norwegian striker, who reportedly has a release clause of £170m in his contract.
In the midst of these transfer rumors, Barcelona is facing a pivotal summer as head coach Xavi announced his intention to leave the club at the end of the season. The club’s hierarchy is eager to persuade Xavi to reconsider his decision, recognizing his value to both young players and veterans within the squad.
In an effort to retain Xavi, Barcelona President Joao Laporta is considering making key signings in the upcoming transfer window, with an eye towards securing Haaland in 2025 as a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski. The club is hopeful that by supporting the team through new additions, they can convince Xavi to extend his tenure at the club past his current contract, which expires in 2025.
