Erling Haaland recently disclosed that Copenhagen turned down the opportunity to sign him in 2016. This decision seems puzzling, considering Haaland’s exceptional abilities that have been evident from the start of his career.

Instead, the Norwegian striker opted to join Molde and has since established himself as a dominant force at RB Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund, and currently at Manchester City, where he is preparing to face Copenhagen in the Champions League.

It appears that Copenhagen may have underestimated Haaland’s potential at the time. Since then, Haaland has achieved remarkable feats on the field, garnering praise as one of the greatest strikers to grace the Premier League. His talent and impact are undeniable, making him a coveted player for teams across the globe.

Despite the missed opportunity with Copenhagen, Haaland harbors no regrets and still holds admiration for the club. He acknowledges that although he was interested in joining their Under-19 team, the move never materialized.

“Yeah, I was on a trial or whatever you want to call it in 2016. I think a couple of guys from the club then wanted me but not everyone, so didn’t happen. Sad for them but maybe good for me because I went to Molde and it was a good choice”, he said [via HaytersTV].

“I like the club, to be fair. It’s a nice club, I’ve got a couple of friends that live in Copenhagen as well and they are standing on the, I don’t know what you call it behind the goal in a lot of games so they enjoy it and I like the club.”

“I was interested, yeah, obviously, [it] was to join the Under-19s then, so yeah, I was interested. Of course, that’s why I went there. I remember even speaking with Stale [Solbakken], the coach then. I even got the shirt actually, number nine, Haaland, at home but I was interested but it never happened.”

“But my destiny was another way but it was a decent way, so far.”

Haaland’s journey took a different path, leading him to where he is today, a path that he believes has been beneficial for his career progression.

Haaland’s development and success serve as a testament to his resilience and talent. While some opportunities may not pan out as initially hoped, his career trajectory exemplifies how setbacks can pave the way for greater achievements.

As Haaland gears up to face Copenhagen once again, he stands as a prime example of turning disappointments into opportunities for growth and success in the world of football.
