In 2022, Spain teenager Jesus Fortea turned down offers from clubs like Manchester City, it has been revealed.
Manchester City and Real Madrid will face off in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League next month, continuing their rivalry from last season’s semi-final match.
Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti are set to compete for the third consecutive season, with a semi-final spot against either Arsenal or Bayern Munich up for grabs for the winners of their quarter-final clash.
Despite beating Real Madrid to sign striker Erling Haaland, Manchester City lost out to them in signing full-back Jesus Fortea, as reported by AS.
The 16-year-old preferred a move to Real Madrid over offers from Manchester City and Bayern Munich, despite receiving better financial proposals from City.
According to reports, a member of his entourage stated, “The financial offers were superior, but Jesús was clear that he would only leave Atleti if it was for Madrid.”
In 2022, Fortea left Atletico Madrid for Real Madrid’s academy and has already featured in six UEFA Youth League matches this season.
Real Madrid reportedly appreciated Fortea’s decision to reject Manchester City, as the City Football Academy is known for signing young talent across Europe.
Manchester City secured the signature of River Plate and Argentina Under-20 player Claudio Echeverri in January, beating out competition from Barcelona and Chelsea.
