Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has given an update on the fitness of Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku, and Matheus Nunes ahead of their upcoming clash with Liverpool on Sunday.
Guardiola’s side is set to travel to Anfield in hopes of securing a victory that would propel them to the top of the Premier League table, surpassing their rivals in the process.
Currently amidst a tightly contested Premier League title race, Manchester City finds themselves just two points behind Liverpool and Arsenal as they approach the final months of the campaign.
The team has been on a strong run, remaining unbeaten in all competitions since early December and recently securing a spot in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
Both Grealish and Doku were absent from the team’s recent win over FC Copenhagen, while Nunes had to leave the match early due to a hand injury.
The trio will be evaluated before Sunday’s match, as City looks to improve their record against Liverpool, having won only two of their last seven encounters in all competitions.
Guardiola confirmed that Grealish will not be available for the Liverpool match, while Doku and Nunes will undergo assessments on Saturday.
The team will train on Saturday in preparation for the game at Anfield, opting to stay in Manchester the night before the fixture rather than in Merseyside to avoid potential disruptions.
The decision to stay in Manchester was made to minimize the risk of any disturbances, as recent incidents between the two teams have raised concerns.
With the race for the Premier League title heating up, Guardiola and his team are focused on securing a crucial victory against Liverpool to strengthen their position at the top of the table.
