Premier League champions Manchester City is reportedly considering a move for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, who is highly-rated at 26 years old.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Manchester City seems to be focusing on bolstering their midfield positions, especially with uncertainties surrounding Kalvin Phillips and Bernardo Silva.
In addition to exploring options like Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, and Lucas Paqueta, City is now looking into Bruno Guimaraes.
According to a report by FootballTransfers’ Jacque Talbot, sources close to the situation reveal City’s significant interest in the Brazilian midfielder for the upcoming season.
Pep Guardiola, the City manager, is said to admire Guimaraes’ versatility and tenacity, making him a preferred target alongside Lucas Paqueta.
However, due to off-the-field issues with Paqueta, a move for him is deemed unlikely. Despite City’s interest, negotiations for Guimaraes may be challenging as his release clause stands at £100 million, as reported by FootballTransfers.
Bruno Guimaraes has been a standout performer for Newcastle United, making 38 appearances this season and contributing three goals and six assists.
Since his arrival in January 2022 for a fee of up to £40 million from Olympique Lyonnais, Guimaraes has become a pivotal player for the club under new ownership.
Although Guimaraes has yet to secure any silverware with Newcastle United, he played a crucial role in reaching the Carabao Cup final in the 2022/23 season, where they were runners-up to Manchester United.
With his consistent performances and impact on the team, Guimaraes remains a key figure in Newcastle United’s midfield system.
