Micah Richards criticized a Manchester City player for being anonymous in the team’s scoreless draw against Arsenal. Despite City’s dominance in possession, they failed to create many dangerous chances and lacked creativity in the final third. Richards singled out Erling Haaland for needing to do more in the game and suggested that he should have been more involved in the build-up play.
Richards pointed out that Haaland had limited involvement in the match against Arsenal, with only 23 touches of the ball. He suggested that the striker should have dropped deeper to pick up the ball and get more involved in the game. However, it appeared that City did not plan for Haaland to play in a deeper role, as he was instructed to stay up the pitch and challenge Arsenal’s centre-backs in a more direct manner.
In previous games, Haaland has been successful in dropping deep and getting involved in the build-up play, but this approach was not utilized by Manchester City against Arsenal. Richards’ comments highlight the need for Haaland to adapt his playing style and be more versatile in different tactical setups. Overall, City’s lack of creativity and attacking impetus contributed to the disappointing result against Arsenal.
