Manchester City agree seven-figure sum with Netflix over six-part Treble season docu-series

Streaming giant Netflix has confirmed the release of a six-part documentary series covering Manchester City’s historic Treble-winning season of 2022/23.

Pep Guardiola and his team made history by securing a third successive Premier League title, winning the FA Cup final against Manchester United, and claiming the UEFA Champions League trophy in Istanbul within a two-week period at the end of the season.

The documentary will highlight Rodri’s winning goal at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in June 2023, which marked Manchester City’s first-ever Champions League victory. This success paved the way for the club to also win the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in Greece and Saudi Arabia, respectively.

In a significant off-field milestone for the club, Manchester City will become the first Premier League team to feature in a Netflix documentary. Following previous successful productions by City’s in-house media team, Netflix has acquired the rights to showcase the team’s journey in the historic season.

The documentary will provide behind-the-scenes access to Manchester City’s unprecedented season, capturing their triumphs and the process of dominating European football over a 15-year plan.

The series will be available worldwide from early next month, with a trailer expected to be released soon. Manchester City collaborated with Netflix for months in a lengthy editing process to produce the documentary, offering fans insight into the team’s journey.

Footage for the series was compiled by City’s in-house production company, attracting significant interest from external companies. Ultimately, Netflix secured the rights to broadcast the documentary in over 200 countries globally, with dubbed or sub-titled versions for different markets.

This marks Manchester City’s second appearance on a global streaming service, following the success of Amazon Prime’s ‘All or Nothing: Manchester City’ in 2017/18, which covered Pep Guardiola’s first season at the club.

The upcoming documentary on Netflix will showcase the club’s incredible achievements during the historic season, adding to Manchester City’s growing legacy in the world of football.
