Manchester City is reportedly interested in acquiring Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. The Brazilian player has expressed his dislike for playing against City, describing his team as feeling like “children” facing 15 players when up against them. However, despite this, Guimaraes has shown admiration for Ilkay Gundogan, citing the German midfielder as someone he has admired since his time at Borussia Dortmund.

Since joining Newcastle in 2022, Guimaraes has earned a reputation as one of the top midfielders in the Premier League and beyond. Despite signing a contract extension last year, tying him to Newcastle until 2028, reports from Football Transfers have revealed City’s interest in securing his services in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Pep Guardiola is said to be a “big fan” of the former Lyon player, with Guimaraes reportedly interested in leaving Newcastle to join either Real Madrid or Barcelona, though such moves are currently deemed unlikely. Newcastle is open to offers from these Spanish giants, with other clubs like Manchester City needing to meet a £100 million release clause for the player.

Paris Saint-Germain also reportedly has an interest in Guimaraes, while moves to Liverpool or Chelsea are seen as improbable. Following City’s victory over Newcastle, Guardiola praised Guimaraes’ performance, with the player reciprocating by hailing Guardiola as “the best coach in history.” Whether Guimaraes will end up at Manchester City under Guardiola remains to be seen as time progresses.
