The debate on whether Manchester City’s Phil Foden is world-class continues, with Jermaine Pennant weighing in on the discussion. Despite City’s success this season, including a potential back-to-back treble, the focus remains on Foden’s performance and potential.
City’s upcoming match against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League quarter-finals, their position in the FA Cup final eight, and their close proximity to the top of the Premier League standings are all contributing to the growing excitement around the team.
The recent victory against Manchester United, with Foden playing a pivotal role in the comeback, has only added to the debate surrounding his world-class status.
Pennant, speaking on TalkSPORT, expressed his opinion that Foden is not yet world-class but has the potential to be if he continues on his current trajectory.
He said when asked if Foden is world-class: “Not now.
“He’s the same kind of situation with Saka. Is he world-class? He’s doing all the same stats he’s just playing as well as Foden.
“But if it continues on this trajectory then yes, he’s going to be a world-class player. But we need to see it on the big occasions.
“The Euros and World Cups playing for England, if he can put in these performances like he’s doing for City, then 100% within next season, a couple of seasons, he will be a world-class player.”
However, many argue that Foden has already proven himself on significant stages, including in the Champions League final and international matches.
His performances against top clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea, and Real Madrid, as well as his contributions to City’s success, showcase his talent and potential.
Foden’s consistency and ability to deliver in crucial moments have earned him praise and recognition as one of the standout players in the team.
With a bright future ahead and a track record of impressive performances, Foden’s journey to becoming a world-class player seems inevitable.
As he continues to excel and showcase his skills on the biggest stages, there is no doubt that Foden will eventually be recognized as an elite talent in the world of football.
