In a recent interview, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed his hopes for the future career of 23-year-old player Phil Foden.
Foden, a Stockport native, has shown immense growth this season with 28 goal contributions in various competitions, playing a key role in securing victories for the team.
Guardiola, who has been instrumental in Foden’s development since integrating him into the first team, believes that the young midfielder still has room to improve and evolve his game further.
He praised Foden for his consistency, ability to compete, and decisive moments on the pitch, emphasizing his importance to the team.
Looking ahead, Guardiola shared his aspirations for Foden to become an even better player by the time he reaches his mid to late twenties.
He highlighted Foden’s passion for football, resilience in recovering from injuries, and dedication to his craft as key factors driving his success.
“We see it every day, every week. It’s competing really well, being decisive in many moments, and we’re delighted,” Guardiola explained. “We can’t forget he’s so young, 23, and he’s won a lot of titles already, a lot of games have been played.
“His consistency in terms of no injuries and recovery, he’s an important player for us. His behaviour is the same, his love for football, and he’s a better player because he’s played a lot of games.”
Guardiola continued by revealing his dreams for Foden in the future, “I hope when he’s 26, 27, playing for Manchester City he will be an even better player. This is what we’re looking for for him.”
Despite his young age, Foden has already accumulated nearly 300 appearances for Manchester City, scoring 78 goals and clinching 16 trophies in just eight seasons with the first team.
His standout performances this season could earn him a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming European Championships, although his role within the team is yet to be determined given the stiff competition.
Guardiola’s belief in Foden’s potential as a world-class talent and his commitment to nurturing the player’s growth bode well for Manchester City’s future success.
As Foden continues to excel on the pitch and hone his skills, he is poised to achieve even greater heights in the years to come.
