Manchester City legend Fernandinho recently shared details of a conversation he had with current City midfielder Rodri.
Fernandinho, who had an illustrious nine-year career at Manchester City before leaving as a free agent in 2022 to return to Brazil, revealed that Rodri sought advice from him.
Unlike the departure of Vincent Kompany a few years earlier, City had already found a replacement for Fernandinho in Rodri.
The Spanish midfielder’s exceptional performance on the pitch under Pep Guardiola’s management seamlessly filled the gap left by Kompany’s absence.
Fernandinho disclosed that Rodri expressed his willingness to learn some defensive tactics from the experienced Brazilian.
Speaking on the Denilson Show, Fernandinho praised Rodri as a fantastic player and mentioned that the young midfielder was looking to improve his defensive skills by observing Fernandinho’s approach.
Fernandinho said: “He’s good, he’s good. Fantastic player.
“I talked to him, and he said, ‘I’m learning from you to give some kicks. Receive a little card to stay out.’”
Throughout his time at City, Fernandinho was known for his tactical fouls, disrupting opposition attacks and frustrating opponents. Despite his aggressive playing style, Fernandinho often avoided bookings for his fouls, earning a reputation as a master of the cynical foul.
Rodri’s willingness to learn from Fernandinho’s expertise has paid off, as evidenced by his impressive record of 60 consecutive unbeaten appearances for City.
The midfielder’s evolution into an attacking threat with a significant contribution of goals and assists further highlights his growth and impact on the team.
Rodri’s development and commitment to learning from seasoned players like Fernandinho showcase his dedication to improving and adapting his game.
As City’s most crucial player in recent seasons, Rodri’s progression and contributions have been pivotal to the team’s success on the pitch.
