Kevin De Bruyne has expressed frustration over suffering injuries in both of the Champions League finals he has played in for Manchester City.

In the 2021 final against Chelsea, the midfielder had to leave the field after a collision with Antonio Rudiger resulted in an eye injury.

Similarly, in the following season’s final against Inter Milan, De Bruyne had to be substituted due to a hamstring injury that had been bothering him for months.

Despite winning the Champions League with City in the match against Inter Milan, De Bruyne still finds it bothersome that injuries forced him off the pitch in both final matches.

Reflecting on his experiences, he expressed his annoyance during an interview with Rio Ferdinand, acknowledging that while he understands the circumstances, he would have preferred to play through the entirety of the finals.

“It doesn’t get to me because I understand the situation last year what I’ve done. I was managing a hamstring injury so I understand that but still, I did what I needed to do, I helped my team do the job and they finished us off but it’s still an annoying part where I would love to manage through a final.”

“There’s nothing I can do. I have a rupture of 10 centimetres in my hamstring, there’s no chance to play so it is still annoying but I’m really proud of what we have done.”

Looking ahead, De Bruyne hopes to be able to play the full game in any future Champions League final appearances with Manchester City.

The midfielder understands the significance of the competition and the impact of his performance on his legacy as one of the game’s top midfielders. His goal is to contribute to his team’s success and play a key role in potential victories.

In conclusion, De Bruyne’s injuries in the Champions League finals have been a source of frustration for him, but he remains focused on his role in the team and his aspirations for future success.

With determination and a drive to make a lasting impact, he aims to overcome the setbacks and achieve his goals on the biggest stage in European club football.
