Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has tipped Manchester City and Pep Guardiola to retain the UEFA Champions League title this season.
Scaloni, who managed Argentina to World Cup glory in 2022, had a successful playing career and is now keeping a close eye on the development of Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez.
Alvarez, who was part of Scaloni’s World Cup-winning squad, has had a successful season, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup with Manchester City.
Scaloni also handed Alvarez his Argentina debut and believes the 24-year-old could be set to win the Champions League again this season.
In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Scaloni stated that Manchester City is the favorite to win the Champions League and highlighted Real Madrid as another strong contender.
“Who will win the Champions League? Manchester City is above the other teams, they are the favourites. Then there’s Real Madrid who are one of the favourites as always,” revealed the Argentina boss.
Manchester City secured their maiden Champions League title last June, and Guardiola’s side remains unbeaten in the competition this season.
Scaloni’s confidence in Manchester City’s ability to retain the title is backed by their strong performance and historic victory over Inter Milan in the final last season.
With a 3-1 first-leg win over FC Copenhagen, Manchester City has taken a major step towards the quarter-final stages of this season’s competition.
Scaloni’s support for Manchester City and Guardiola’s team reflects his belief in their ability to continue their success in the UEFA Champions League.
With Alvarez’s impressive performances and the team’s unbeaten run, the Argentine manager sees Manchester City as the team to beat in the competition.
