Alasdair Gold has recently revealed that Manchester City were interested in signing two Tottenham Hotspur youth players in January.
The Citizens had a busy winter transfer window, landing a deal to sign Claudio Echeverri and saying goodbye to Kalvin Phillips as he joined West Ham United on loan until the end of the season.
Now that the window has closed, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding two players the Manchester club had on their radar but ultimately didn’t end up landing deals for.
City had their eyes on two Spurs youngsters, Mikey Moore and Callum Olusesi, as revealed by journalist Alasdair Gold.
Gold shared in a recent edition of Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham that City were looking to get them in January. However, both Moore and Olusesi have decided to stay at Spurs instead, despite the interest from top clubs like Manchester City.
Olusesi, a midfielder in Spurs’ U18 squad, has scored five goals and delivered three assists in 12 appearances, while Moore has found the net nine times and supplied six assists in nine league appearances. Both 16-year-olds have been in impressive form, making it easy to see why they were targets for City.
As it stands, City’s U18 side are currently 17 points behind their rivals Manchester United at the top of the North version of the league table.
Landing Moore and Olusesi in January could have given City’s U18 side a great boost, especially considering their effective performances. The addition of these two young talents could have improved City’s chances of catching up to their close rivals.
Ultimately, the decision to stay put at Spurs proves the potential and talent these youngsters possess. The interest from a club like Manchester City undoubtedly speaks to their promising futures, and the decision to remain at Spurs gives them a chance to continue their development at the London club.
Despite the missed opportunity, the interest from City reflects the quality of the young players and the opportunities that lie ahead for Moore and Olusesi in the world of football.
