Nathan Ake has offered his support to Jack Grealish as the Manchester City star works hard to rediscover his best form. Grealish has recently found himself out of the starting lineup, playing only 16 minutes over the last four Premier League games and missing the FA Cup match against Tottenham Hotspur. However, Ake believes that Grealish is determined to make a comeback, having been one of City’s key players last season.
Speaking ahead of City’s Champions League last 16 clash with Copenhagen, Ake also praised the talent of City youngster Oscar Bobb. He expressed the difficulty of winning the competition but also mentioned that Bobb is “technically unbelievable.” However, Ake’s main focus was on Grealish, acknowledging that the star has experienced a challenging start to 2024.
Last week, City manager Pep Guardiola called on Grealish to match his previous season’s performance, to which Ake responded, “Jack is good. He’s very good. Everyone knows in the team, for sure, and everyone outside of football know how good he is. He’s a top guy. He won’t change, if he doesn’t play for a few games he will still work hard. Give his everything every day.” Ake also emphasized that Grealish’s dedication and hard work motivate the entire team.
Grealish’s playing time has diminished, with other players like Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, and Oscar Bobb being preferred in the wide areas. Guardiola seems to believe that Grealish still has work to do and needs to prove himself in order to regain regular playing time. With Ake hoping that Grealish can find his best form again soon, it is clear that the star will have to give Guardiola a reason to include him in the starting lineup once more.
Grealish will need to work hard and prove himself in training to earn his spot back in the team, and as Ake stated, “I’m sure he will play lots and lots of games.” Ake’s remarks are a testament to Grealish’s determination and resilience, indicating that the star is prepared to fight for his place and contribute to City’s efforts in the remainder of the season.
