Vitaliy Mykolenko has shared that his fellow Ukrainian teammate, Oleksandr Zinchenko, has expressed admiration and acclaim for the retired Manchester City legend David Silva in private. Zinchenko had the opportunity to play and train alongside Silva during their time together at the Etihad Stadium. Mykolenko stated that Zinchenko once declared in August last year that Silva was the best player he had ever played with.
The left-back mentioned feeling “lucky” to have had the chance to play with a player of Silva’s caliber, emphasizing that Silva’s game reading ability was on a different level. Zinchenko and Silva were part of the City squad that secured the 2017/2018 and the 2018/2019 Premier League titles, as well as the FA Cup and two Carabao Cup trophies.
Mykolenko revealed that when asked about which Premier League legend he would have liked to play with, Zinchenko spoke highly of Silva and described him as the “smartest player” from a technical and tactical perspective in an interview with Sky Sports. His first choice was Leighton Baines, while Unai Emery also expressed a desire to have had Silva in his current Aston Villa team.
The impact of David Silva goes beyond his gameplay as he has left a lasting impression on his teammates, fellow players, and managers across the game. Silva, known for his exceptional skills and intelligence on the pitch, has been regarded as a gem of a player.
Both mesmerizing and instructive to watch, he has been a source of inspiration for his teammates and a true footballing maestro, whether with City or his previous club Valencia. It is evident that Silva’s influence extends far beyond the goals and victories he achieved during his career.
