Rio Ferdinand recently shared his opinion on the five world-class players who are currently playing for Manchester City. Despite the popular belief that there are numerous world-class players within the club, Ferdinand narrowed it down to just five.
Ferdinand stated that Manchester City boasts a squad of immense depth, and the absence of Rodri and Erling Haaland could potentially hinder their chances of winning as much silverware as they have in recent years. He also mentioned that he does not consider Phil Foden to be a world-class player yet.
According to Ferdinand, there are only 12 players across Europe’s top five leagues who deserve to be considered world-class, and out of these 12 players, five of them are from Manchester City.
“I think it’s easier when you put a list together. I was talking to Owen Hargreaves about it the other day. When you put a list down, it becomes easier for me”, he said on TNT Sports.
“There you see the guys there. Ederson, Alisson, Kyle Walker, Virgil van Dijk, Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne and the list goes, you can see it there yourself.”
Erling Haaland was the last of the five Manchester City players Rio Ferdinand considers world-class.
Other names in this list included Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, the Real Madrid duo of Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham as well as Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane.
He believed that these players stand out among the rest and possess the qualities of world-class performers in the game of football.
However, there have been debates about whether Ferdinand’s selection of the five world-class players from Manchester City accurately represents the club’s talent pool.
Some argue that other players such as Bernardo Silva, John Stones, and Ruben Dias should also be considered as world-class players due to their exceptional performances for the team.
In summary, Rio Ferdinand’s opinion has sparked a discussion about the criteria for defining world-class players and the players from Manchester City who deserve this status.
The debate continues about which players truly deserve to be recognized as world-class based on their contributions and abilities on the field.
