Former England manager Sam Allardyce has expressed his belief that Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden should be a regular feature in the England national team.

Allardyce feels that Foden, who recently scored a hat-trick in City’s 3-1 win over Brentford, is one of the best number 10s in the world and should be given more opportunities with the England squad.

Foden’s impressive performance has sparked praise from pundits and fans alike, with his total goal tally reaching 14 for the season. Allardyce has also raised questions about the direction of Foden’s international career, in light of his stellar form.

During an appearance on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Allardyce expressed his doubts about England manager Gareth Southgate’s view of Foden.

He said: “I don’t think he’s getting in the England team enough.

He stated that he believes Foden is not getting enough chances with the England team, despite possessing the versatility to play in multiple positions.

Allardyce emphasized that Foden’s recent contributions, both in terms of goals and assists, make him a top contender for the number 10 position.

“I don’t think Gareth has got him as a number one. And I also think anywhere else though, is yes now. Centre midfield, wide left, wide right – any of those three positions.”

“By the fact of his assists as well as his goals now, I think he’s right up there (as one of the best number 10s). He had a lot of patience didn’t he, waiting and waiting (for his opportunity).”

The discussion around Foden’s role within the England setup continued, with former player Danny Murphy echoing Allardyce’s sentiments.

Murphy suggested that Foden is a superior player compared to Tottenham Hotspur’s James Maddison and should be a regular starter for the national team.

The consensus among analysts and former players is that Foden’s exceptional talent deserves more recognition, particularly within the England squad.

Despite his consistent performances in club football, Foden has not yet solidified a key role for England, accumulating just 31 caps.

Many believe that Southgate should be making the most of Foden’s skill set, given his ability to impact games with his technical prowess and relentless style of play.

Overall, there is a consensus that Foden’s contributions for Manchester City should translate into more opportunities with the England national team.

The feeling is that Foden’s abilities are too significant to be underutilized at the international level, and it is high time for him to become a consistent figure in Gareth Southgate’s squad.
