Manchester City is facing the possibility of being without Jack Grealish for the next six matches after the forward suffered a groin injury on Tuesday evening.
This comes at a critical juncture for Pep Guardiola’s side as they continue their quest to defend last season’s historic treble.
They have important upcoming fixtures in the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and Emirates FA Cup.
The team is currently locked in a tight battle to secure a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title. With only two points separating them, Liverpool, and Arsenal, every match is crucial.
The return of both Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland from significant lay-offs was a welcome development for the team. However, the recent injury to Grealish has dealt a blow to Guardiola’s plans for the upcoming matches.
Grealish, making his first start since early January, was forced off against FC Copenhagen after just 20 minutes due to a groin injury.
It is expected that the Englishman will be sidelined for two to three weeks, although the exact timeframe is still uncertain.
As a result, he is likely to miss the Premier League clash with Chelsea and potentially six matches over the next three weeks, including crucial games against Brentford, Bournemouth, Luton Town, Manchester United, and FC Copenhagen.
Grealish’s participation in the crucial trip to Anfield to face Liverpool remains in doubt as well.
In addition to Grealish’s injury, Guardiola also revealed that Josko Gvardiol could miss the next six matches due to an ankle ligament injury.
This further complicates the team’s situation as they navigate a challenging part of the season. With these key players sidelined, Manchester City will need to rely on their depth and resilience as they strive to maintain their competitive edge in all competitions.
