A recent report has unveiled the amount that West Ham United paid Manchester City to secure the temporary services of Kalvin Phillips for the remainder of the season. The 28-year-old defensive midfielder left Manchester City to join David Moyes at the London Stadium, hoping for more consistent game time to secure a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the European Championships.
In collaboration with his representatives and Manchester City, a suitable move was found for Phillips, resulting in a temporary agreement in the south of the country during the closing stages of the January transfer window. The completion of the deal saw West Ham United pay a £3 million loan fee to Manchester City for the six-month loan move of Kalvin Phillips.
Initially, Manchester City had asked for around £6 million for the loan, but struggled to find any interested clubs willing to meet such terms. Since joining West Ham, Phillips has appeared in both Premier League fixtures, starting one match and coming off the bench in the other. However, his performances have come under scrutiny as West Ham conceded goals directly from his loss of possession in both games.
In a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth, Phillips played for 68 minutes before coming on as a substitute for the final 18 minutes in a 3-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford. The media has reported that the fee paid by West Ham for Phillips on loan is £4.5 million less than Manchester City’s initial demand.
Despite the criticism of his performances so far, Phillips will be hoping to make a significant impact for West Ham during his loan spell to secure a place in the England squad for the European Championships. His move to West Ham has provided him with a fresh start and the opportunity to prove himself as a valuable asset for the team.
