Rio Ferdinand recently shared an interesting story about a fan who came to watch Kevin De Bruyne during Manchester City’s 2-0 win against Everton.
The surprising part was that the fan was not even a Manchester City supporter. This suggests the impact and appeal that De Bruyne has on football fans worldwide.
In the match against Everton, Pep Guardiola surprisingly benched De Bruyne, which might have disappointed the fan who came specifically to watch the Belgian superstar.
However, the fan’s disappointment turned into delight when De Bruyne eventually came on as a substitute and played a crucial role in City’s victory.
Ferdinand also shared an interaction he had with the fan at the Etihad Stadium, revealing that the fan expressed his admiration for De Bruyne, despite not being a City supporter.
“One thing I would say though, they’re getting a bigger fanbase because I was there [at the Etihad Stadium], the geezer pulled me over and he said, ‘Rio!’ Come over and I said, ‘Are you alright?’ Took a picture and he said, ‘I don’t even support City.’ I said, ‘What are you here for then?’ He went, ‘Just come to see Kevin De Bruyne.’ That’s what’s going on over there, whether that’s good or bad.”
“It’s like they’ve got players that are bringing in a different fanbase.”
He also pointed out that City’s young talents, such as Phil Foden and Erling Haaland, are gaining worldwide attention due to their exceptional abilities and potential to become future football superstars.
With such an array of talented players, it is only natural that fans from across the world would want to witness them in action at the Etihad Stadium. This illustrates the growing global influence of Manchester City and their ability to captivate football enthusiasts beyond their traditional fanbase.
In conclusion, Rio Ferdinand’s story reflects the immense appeal of players like De Bruyne and the growing fanbase that Manchester City is cultivating. As City continues to attract worldwide attention, it further solidifies their status as a football powerhouse with a global reach.
