Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva suffered a significant ankle injury during the team’s 3-1 victory over Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League last-16 first leg match.
Silva played a crucial role in the match, scoring the second goal for Manchester City just before halftime with a skillful shot over the goalkeeper.
However, his game was cut short after a heavy challenge from Kevin Diks resulted in a shredded ankle sock and left the midfielder hobbling.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed concern over Silva’s injury, hoping that it is not a major issue and that he will recover in time for the upcoming Premier League match against Chelsea.
“Bernardo has a big knock in his ankle. Hopefully Bernardo (Silva) is not a big issue,” the Manchester City manager said.
“In a few days we have Chelsea at home and we have to recover as quickly as possible.”
In addition to Silva’s injury, Guardiola also has to deal with other injury concerns as the team travels back to Manchester.
Jack Grealish, who was making his first start in several games, was forced off the field with a suspected groin problem, adding to Guardiola’s list of worries.
Guardiola emphasized the importance of a quick recovery ahead of the match against Chelsea and expressed hope that Silva’s injury is not a major issue. The extent of Grealish’s injury will require further testing at the City Football Academy.
Silva’s performance and subsequent injury during the match highlighted his importance to the team and his potential absence due to injury would be a setback for Manchester City.
Guardiola and the team will be closely monitoring the situation and working towards a quick recovery for both Silva and Grealish as they prepare for their upcoming matches.
