Chris Sutton believes that Brentford has a chance to defeat Manchester City by exploiting their attacking pressure and hitting them on the break.
After the latest round of midweek fixtures, City emerged victorious in their match against Burnley while Brentford lost to Tottenham Hotspur.
As the Citizens prepare to travel south to face Thomas Frank’s side on Monday, Sutton shared his thoughts on how the game may unfold and highlighted the method through which the home side could emerge victorious.
In his analysis for BBC Sport, Sutton stated, “Brentford did the double over Manchester City last season, and they are about to play each other twice in the space of two weeks. I don’t see a repeat of that Bees success, however.
“Brentford will score, because everyone seems to score against City these days – even Burnley – but City will score more. Pep Guardiola’s side are just so efficient at the moment and Brentford’s only hope is to hit them on the break. I don’t see it working out.”
Sutton’s observation stems from Brentford’s previous success against City in both of their league meetings last season. He highlights the importance of exploiting moments to counter-attack and capitalize on City’s susceptibility to conceding goals.
While City has scored significantly more goals and conceded fewer compared to Brentford this season, the match remains an anticipated contest.
As Frank’s side has scored a total of seven goals in their last four league games, City faces a challenge defensively.
Despite the significant disparity in their goal-scoring records, the match against Brentford is expected to be a demanding one for City. City will look to maintain their efficiency and secure a victory, edging closer to regaining the title.
By exploiting City’s attacking propensity and hitting them on the break, Brentford may stand a chance to achieve an upset victory.
Sutton’s viewpoint provides insight into the potential strategies that Brentford could employ to secure a win against one of the top sides in the league.
