Manchester City center-back, Nathan Ake, expressed uncertainty about the future of manager Pep Guardiola beyond the end of next season.
Ake has been a key player for Manchester City and Guardiola, contributing to the team’s success in winning multiple trophies and being a crucial part of their current Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup campaigns.
Since joining the club from Bournemouth in 2020 for £41 million, Ake has helped Manchester City achieve significant milestones, including scoring an important goal in a recent FA Cup match against Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite his improvement under Guardiola’s management, Ake is aware that the current season could be Guardiola’s second to last at the Etihad Stadium, as his contract is set to expire in 2025.
With Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp announcing his departure from the club at the end of the season, Guardiola has hinted at potentially extending his stay at Manchester City.
In an interview with ITV News, Ake expressed his personal desire to see Guardiola continue as Manchester City manager for even longer but acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Guardiola’s decision.
“Everyone hopes that,” Ake responded when asked whether Pep Guardiola could extend his Manchester City contract beyond the summer of 2025. He continued, “But who knows what he’s going to do.”
Regarding the possibility of a new coach arriving at the Etihad Stadium, Ake acknowledged the transient nature of football and how players need to adapt to changes.
Despite rejecting the opportunity to return to Chelsea, Ake has made 84 starts under Guardiola’s management and is poised to make his 30th appearance this season in an upcoming match against Everton.
The 28-year-old’s remarks shed light on the potential changes at Manchester City and the impact they could have on the team.
Ultimately, Ake’s commitment to the club and his support for Guardiola’s continued leadership demonstrate his loyalty and dedication to the team’s success.
