Manchester City star Rodri is pretty sure that the Premier League title race this year will go down to the final day. City is currently occupying the second spot in the league, just two points behind the leaders, Liverpool.
Despite not having played particularly well, City secured a win over Everton, with Erling Haaland scoring a brace at the Etihad for his first goals since returning from injury. The efforts made by Bernardo Silva, Kyle Walker, and Kevin De Bruyne were especially essential for the team.
The win briefly put City at the top of the table, only to be displaced by Liverpool after their victory against Burnley. Arsenal, too, enjoyed a thumping win at the weekend, making the race for the title extremely tight.
Rodri predicts that this season’s Premier League title race could be one of the closest ones, with just two points currently separating the top three teams.
He told the Mirror: “Since I arrived, every year has been more tough, to be honest. Now I think to be fair we have two more contenders for the title, even three if you want to add Villa.”
Furthermore, City has a game in hand against Brentford, providing them with the opportunity to regain the top spot, potentially dealing a psychological blow to their rivals.
However, Rodri doesn’t expect City to run away with the title, foreseeing a tough competition and hinting at mind games with their rivals.
He added: “It’s even harder when you have more opponents. It’s going to be until the end. I don’t expect it’s going to be in one month, I think it’s going to be until the last game
The Spaniard’s comments suggest that this might be City’s hardest title race yet, and head coach Pep Guardiola has a challenging task ahead. City fans are hopeful that their key players who have returned will keep the momentum going and give the team a good chance of achieving success in the title race.
The Premier League this season indeed appears to be shaping up to be one of the most thrilling in recent years, with an exciting battle anticipated until the very last game.
