Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that two players, Jack Grealish and Josko Gvardiol, will miss the upcoming match against Bournemouth but are nearing a return to the squad. The team is looking to continue their winning streak after a recent victory against Brentford.
While Kevin De Bruyne is expected to make the trip after sitting out the last game, Grealish and Gvardiol are still unavailable. Guardiola spoke about their progress in a pre-match press conference, stating that they are getting closer to returning to action.
He said: “I think this week no, but it’s closer. I don’t know exactly I didn’t speak to the doctors but they are closer.”
Gvardiol has been out of play since early February due to minor ankle ligament damage, while Grealish suffered a muscle injury in his last appearance. Both players are important assets to the team and their return is eagerly anticipated.
In Gvardiol’s absence, Manuel Akanji has been filling in at left-back, but City has missed the pace and composure that the Croatian provides on the flank. Grealish, despite not starting a Premier League game in 2024, showed his value in a recent appearance, demonstrating his ability to control the ball and maintain possession.
As City faces crucial upcoming matches, the return of Grealish and Gvardiol will be vital to their success. The team is hopeful that both players will be back in action soon to strengthen the squad and enhance their performance on the field. Guardiola and the team are optimistic about the prospects of having both players back in the near future.
