Three of Manchester City’s biggest stars have opened up about their biggest dislikes when it comes to football.
Despite their team’s incredible success under Pep Guardiola, Manuel Akanji, Jack Grealish, and Kyle Walker shared their respective pet peeves and annoyances in the game.
During a conversation with 11teamsports on TikTok, Walker first expressed his biggest annoyance in football, stating, “My football ick is people playing up to crowds.” Grealish chimed in by sharing, “Long throw-ins into the box.”
Akanji then delved into a more serious dislike, expressing his frustration with footballers who act tough on the pitch but aren’t tough at all off the pitch.
He highlighted how he dislikes their behavior, noting that they can do everything on the pitch but won’t act the same way outside of it.
“I don’t like it when footballers act tough on the pitch and they’re not tough at all,” he said. “I hate it because they can do everything on the pitch but outside of the pitch they won’t do that.”
Akanji’s annoyance appears to be justified, especially considering incidents where such behavior has proven costly for City.
For instance, in a match against Nottingham Forest in September, Rodri was involved in an altercation with Morgan Gibbs-White, resulting in a red card for Rodri for violent conduct.
As a result, City lost three subsequent matches, including defeats to Arsenal and Wolves in the Premier League.
These events seem to have solidified Akanji’s frustration with such behavior in football, as he believes it has directly impacted his team’s performance on the pitch.
The revelation of these football irritations offers a behind-the-scenes perspective on the players’ experiences in the game, shedding light on the less glamorous aspects of professional football.
In addition to their dislike of certain aspects of the game, the players’ candid insights provide fans with a deeper understanding of what goes on beyond the field.
This honest and forthcoming conversation about their football pet peeves gives fans a glimpse into the lives of these elite athletes and adds depth to their public personas.
