Manchester City have achieved a 3-1 victory against FC Copenhagen in tonight’s Champions League last 16 clash at Parken Stadium.
The win marks City’s 11th straight win across all competitions. Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and Phil Foden were the goal scorers for the visitors. Despite FC Copenhagen finding a shock equalizer midway through the first half, it was a comfortable win for Pep Guardiola’s side.
The UCL clash showcased Manchester City’s excellent ball control and opened up another opportunity for the team to reach the quarter-finals of the competition.
A notable moment in the match was Bernardo Silva’s finish, described by Ally McCoist as ‘magic’. City legend Paul Dickov was particularly impressed with John Stones’s performance.
The match saw several standout performances, particularly in the final third. Many players, including Bernardo Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Jeremy Doku, and Phil Foden, displayed commendable performances.
John Stones played a hybrid role and utilized the ball effectively throughout the game. He completed a remarkable 85 out of 88 passes, indicating a passing accuracy of 97%, the highest among all the players who started the game.
Following City’s win, Dickov praised Stones, emphasizing his outstanding performance and the challenge he posed for the opposition due to his quality.
Dickov said: “I thought he was outstanding again. At times he was playing inside right, inside left, he was the one furthest up next to Erling Haaland at times.
“Then he’s dictating play from centre-half. It must be so difficult to set up against this, when you’ve got a player of the quality of John Stones.”
Stones’s performance, along with Rodri’s, played a significant role in City’s victory and showed his prowess as a £50 million star.
The game proved to be a reminder of Stones’s exceptional footballing abilities despite the challenges he faced due to injuries during the season.
City fans hope that his run of bad luck with injuries is behind him, and he can continue to make significant contributions to the team.
