Gael Clichy has expressed his belief that Joleon Lescott is not given the recognition he deserves for his contributions as a player, particularly during his time at Manchester City. Lescott played a pivotal role in City’s first Premier League victory in the 2011/2012 season and formed a formidable defensive partnership with Vincent Kompany. Clichy, who operated as the team’s left-back alongside Micah Richards on the right, feels that Lescott’s significant impact on the team is often overlooked.

After winning a second league title with City in 2014, Lescott moved to West Brom. However, during his final season at Manchester City, he lost his position in the starting lineup and only featured in eight Premier League games. Despite this, Clichy still believes Lescott is undervalued for the leadership and defensive prowess he brought to the team.

Clichy acknowledges that Lescott was an influential figure in the defense and the vocal leader on the pitch during their time together at City. He expressed his opinion during a Premier League Productions’ The Final Word show, where he emphasized the impact of both Lescott and Kompany during the 2011/2012 season. Clichy also highlighted Lescott’s underrated status and stated that he deserved more recognition for his defensive abilities and overall contributions to the team.

Interestingly, Clichy himself could make a similar claim to being underappreciated. Despite competing for a starting position with Aleksandar Kolarov, he maintained a consistent and reliable presence as the team’s left-back. Although not as flashy as some of City’s superstars during that time, Clichy’s steady defensive performances played an important role in the team’s success.

In summary, both Joleon Lescott and Gael Clichy played crucial roles in Manchester City’s achievements during their time at the club. However, Clichy believes that Lescott’s contributions have not been fully recognized and acknowledges that his own contributions may also be overlooked due to the presence of other high-profile players in the team.
