In a recent analysis, Destiny Udogie made a bold claim that Kevin De Bruyne surpasses Luka Modric in terms of football prowess. Both players, often compared to each other, possess unique skill sets that set them apart in the midfield.
De Bruyne, known for his proficiency in the number ten position, excels at orchestrating plays and creating goal-scoring opportunities. On the other hand, Modric has made a name for himself with his ability to dictate the tempo of the game from a deeper midfield role.
The comparison between the two midfield maestros arises from their status as standout players of their generation. Mark Schwarzer even suggested that De Bruyne could enjoy a lengthy career similar to Modric’s.
When selecting midfielders for his EA FC 24 team, Udogie had the option of choosing between De Bruyne, Modric, and Andrea Pirlo. In a TikTok video with Tottenham Hotspur, Udogie revealed his preference for the five-time Premier League winner over the other two midfielders.
Despite Modric’s Ballon d’Or win in 2018, De Bruyne’s impact on Manchester City’s Premier League triumph that same season cannot be overlooked. While Modric secured the Champions League with Real Madrid, his influence on his team paled in comparison to De Bruyne’s contributions.
Although Modric showcased his talent at the World Cup, other midfielders like N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba outperformed him during the tournament. Over the past decade, De Bruyne has not only been a linchpin for City but also arguably the best midfielder globally.
While the debate over who is better rages on, Udogie’s assertion that De Bruyne outshines Modric seems justified. With his consistent performances and impact on the pitch, De Bruyne has solidified his position as one of the top midfielders in the world.
