Jack Grealish has responded to the actions of Aymeric Laporte, who left Manchester City in 2023. The 28-year-old football player shared his reaction on Instagram.
So, what exactly did Aymeric Laporte do to catch the attention of Jack Grealish? The Spain international left Manchester City to join Al-Nassr in a £23.5m deal in August 2023. Laporte faced Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in a friendly on Thursday night and scored a potential Puskas winner in the 12th minute from inside his own half. This achievement is particularly striking given that Laporte had only scored 12 goals in 180 appearances for Manchester City. After seeing the stunning goal, Grealish commented “top” on Laporte’s Instagram post alongside two applauding emojis.
Other prominent figures including Rio Ferdinand, Thibaut Courtois, and Adidas also praised Laporte for his incredible performance against Inter Miami in Saudi Arabia.
Laporte’s move to Al-Nassr in August came as a shock to many, as he was considered one of the better central defenders across Europe. Nevertheless, the 29-year-old has performed well in Saudi Arabia and has made 22 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing one assist. His side currently sits second in the Saudi Pro League, only seven points behind the leader Al-Hilal.
Despite the competition, Laporte seems to be playing well and has shown plenty of confidence after leaving Manchester City, as evidenced by his stunning strike against Inter Miami. He will be keen to win the Saudi Pro League, but it remains to be seen if his team can close the gap to the league leaders.
Grealish’s reaction to Laporte’s performance provides a glimpse into the camaraderie that exists among former teammates, and it is clear that he was impressed by the achievements of the player who left Manchester City in 2023.
