Chelsea legend Eden Hazard is showing his support for fellow Belgian Jeremy Doku as he embarks on his career at Manchester City under the guidance of Pep Guardiola. Hazard, speaking on The Obi One podcast, expressed his belief that Doku has all the attributes to succeed at the highest level, especially with Guardiola’s mentorship.
Since joining City from Rennes for a hefty £55.5m fee last summer, Doku has made an impressive impact, contributing 4 goals and 6 assists in 25 appearances. However, it’s worth noting that a bulk of those goal involvements came in a single game against Bournemouth.
City took a gamble on Doku, considering his underwhelming record at Rennes with 12 goals and 10 assists in 92 matches, along with concerns about his injury history. Despite these doubts, it appears that the risk may pay off, although worries about his fitness linger after a recent month-long absence due to a muscular issue.
Hazard recognizes Doku’s potential as a raw talent with the necessary qualities to become a top player, including speed, close ball control, and a keen eye for passing. However, there are lingering doubts about his finishing and final delivery, highlighting the need for refinement and development.
While Guardiola’s coaching prowess is expected to bring out the best in Doku, the process of refining his skills and ironing out his flaws may take time. Patience will be key in nurturing Doku’s talent into a more polished and consistent force on the field.
