Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has responded to the news of Jurgen Klopp’s upcoming departure from Liverpool. Klopp announced that he will be stepping down from his role as Liverpool’s manager at the end of the season, and Guardiola was asked for his reaction and thoughts on this monumental news after his side beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in the FA Cup.

Guardiola shared, “I will sleep better. The days before playing against Liverpool were almost a nightmare. Of course he will be missed. I was shocked, like everyone, to the news. I felt a part of Man City would be lost. We can’t define our period here together without him and with Liverpool – it is impossible. They have been our biggest rival and personally he has been my biggest rival from when he was at Dortmund and I was at Bayern.”

Guardiola also expressed that Klopp’s departure will leave a significant void in the Premier League. “I think the Premier League is going to miss his charisma, personality and the way his teams play. They have always been a pleasure to watch them and how positive they are in their approach. They try to win every game. I wish him all the best.”

Having faced off against Klopp on 29 occasions, Guardiola has won 11, drawn six and lost 12, illustrating the significant rivalry and results between the two managers. Liverpool is currently five points ahead of City at the top of the table in the Premier League, although the Manchester club have a game in hand.

Despite Liverpool’s lead in the Premier League, Guardiola expects them to be an even tougher outfit to overcome as Klopp’s players will undoubtedly want to send their manager off in the most successful way possible.

In light of the true extent of Klopp and Guardiola’s rivalry with each other and their respective clubs, it seems that fans will be just as disappointed as the managers themselves to see their confrontation come to an end. All eyes are now on the remainder of the season and what the future holds for both teams post-Klopp.
