According to journalist David Ornstein, Manchester City is likely to miss out on signing Alphonso Davies this summer, as the full-back is expected to sign a new contract with Bayern Munich.

City has been interested in Davies for the past two years and is considered a player that club officials have always appreciated.

Real Madrid has also shown interest in the Canada international, but Ornstein revealed that the new contract proposal from Bayern Munich is superior, making it likely that Davies will renew his contract with the German club.

He said in The Athletic: “The Madrid interest is well documented, but the last I heard, the Bayern Munich new-contract proposal was superior, so unless that has changed or does subsequently, the expectation is that Davies will renew.”

Currently, Davies has a contract with Bayern until the summer of 2025 and the possibility of him not extending his contract could have led to concerns for the club.

However, Ornstein’s update seems to indicate that City is not in contention to sign Davies. With no mention of City’s involvement in the current situation, it remains uncertain if the club intends to act on their previous interest in the player or if they have already set their sights on other targets.

Davies, who earns £184,000 per week, has been with Bayern since January 2019 and has made a significant impact on the team, with 179 appearances, nine goals, and 28 assists to his name.

While the possibility of him moving in this transfer window is slim, clubs like Real Madrid are already looking ahead to the summer.

With an expectation for Davies to commit his future to Bayern, it appears that the player is likely to sign a new contract soon.

The likelihood of City missing out on a potential deal with Davies signifies a missed opportunity for the club, but it remains to be seen if they have alternative options in mind.

City’s struggles with the left-back position over the years have made Davies an appealing target, but his potential renewal with Bayern Munich could lead City to explore other options for bolstering their defense.
