Oleksandr Zinchenko has used only one word to describe Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
In 2016, 27-year-old Zinchenko joined Manchester City, the same year Guardiola became the club’s manager. Zinchenko then spent the 2016/17 season on loan at PSV Eindhoven, returning to Manchester afterwards and becoming a prominent figure in Guardiola’s squad until leaving in 2022 to join Arsenal.
In a recent one-word challenge video on The Athletic’s TikTok channel, Zinchenko described Guardiola as a “winner”.
During his time at City, Zinchenko made 128 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and delivering 12 assists. With this experience, he understands what it’s like to play under Guardiola and learn from him, especially in knowing what it takes to win trophies.
Guardiola has won 14 major titles with Manchester City, including five Premier League trophies and one Champions League. His previous management at Barcelona and Bayern Munich have also garnered a multitude of titles. This makes it hard to disagree with Zinchenko’s description of Guardiola as a “winner”.
Looking to the present, Guardiola and his players are aiming to make history by potentially becoming the first team to win four Premier League titles in a row and securing the club’s second Champions League. Achieving these feats would solidify Guardiola’s status as a serial winner and one of the best managers in world football.
