The footballing world was left in shock following the news of Jurgen Klopp’s departure from Liverpool after nine seasons at the helm. However, Manchester City, often known for their composure, seemed unphased by the announcement.
Nathan Ake, a star defender for City, addressed the press after Klopp’s announcement, expressing that the news was “a bit of a shock” for everyone. Despite this, Ake emphasized that the announcement did not change anything for the City squad and that they remained focused on their own objectives.
In an interview with the Daily Mirror, Ake stated, “I don’t want to even think about it. Obviously, it was a bit of a shock for everyone to see the news. Klopp’s a very good manager and has done so well at Liverpool. For the Premier League, he will be a big loss. But it didn’t change anything for us here. We are just focused on ourselves.”
While Klopp’s departure may not have a direct impact on Manchester City, it could potentially provide a boost to their rivals, Liverpool. Klopp’s influence and success at Anfield have made him a beloved figure, and his departure may inspire the Liverpool players to give their all for him in his final season at the club.
Furthermore, with Klopp’s impending departure, it is evident that he is determined to claim further success in English football. With several domestic trophies under his belt, including an FA Cup, a League Cup, and a Premier League title, Klopp has made it clear that he will not take charge of another club in England after leaving Liverpool in 2023/24.
At present, Liverpool leads the Premier League table with 48 points, while Manchester City trails with 43 points but with a game in hand. The title race is still wide open, and whether Klopp remains at Liverpool or not, there is much still to play for in the ongoing season.
