Man City manager Pep Guardiola reportedly wants to re-sign Tottenham defender Pedro Porro and Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz. The team has faced challenges this season due to the absence of Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland, who have both missed parts of the campaign. Despite this, Man City has managed to climb to second place in the Premier League table, trailing leaders Liverpool by two points.
Guardiola is looking to make significant signings in the summer, and Spanish publication Nacional claims that Tottenham defender Porro and Aston Villa’s Luiz are his top priorities. Both players have previously spent time at Man City, with Porro leaving in 2022 to move to Sporting Lisbon before joining Tottenham permanently. Luiz also left Man City in 2019 to join Aston Villa and has since become one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
Reportedly, Guardiola has expressed his interest in both players to the club’s hierarchy in the hope of signing them next summer. Porro has caught the eye with his performances and is being closely monitored by Man City. Meanwhile, Luiz is also on Guardiola’s radar, although he may come at a higher price. Tottenham is said to be asking for €60m (£52m) for Porro, while Luiz is expected to be more expensive.
Following his impressive performances, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou expressed his admiration for Porro, highlighting his passion, energy, and defensive improvements. Guardiola is reportedly determined to bring both players back to Man City, despite the high cost involved. This strategic move aligns with Guardiola’s goal of reinforcing the team for the upcoming campaign.
