In an exclusive interview with Football Insider, finance expert Kieran Maguire expressed his dismay at the comments made towards Manchester City by Uefa chief Aleksander Ceferin, calling them ‘staggeringly unprofessional’ and indicative of a ‘megalomaniac’. This comes in light of Ceferin’s claim that Uefa ‘knew they were right’ about City’s financial breaches, despite their suspension being overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
City had been charged with breaching Financial Fair Play rules by Uefa and were banned from the Champions League for two years, a decision that was later overturned after appeal. However, the club now faces 115 financial charges from the Premier League, with CEO Richard Masters stating that a trial date has been set.
Maguire criticized Ceferin for effectively accusing City of being guilty before their independent hearing had even begun, calling it ‘staggeringly unprofessional’ and ‘indicative of a narcissistic megalomaniac’. He also expressed disappointment at the top officials of football administration, alleging that they are more concerned with preserving their own power and influence over the game than with the betterment of the game as a whole.
In other news, a new verdict date for City’s financial breaches has been revealed. For more Manchester City news, fans can follow Football Insider on Facebook or join their brand new WhatsApp Channel for instant updates to be sent straight to their phone.
