Former Irish forward Tony Cascarino recently suggested that Tottenham Hotspur forward Timo Werner was intimidated by Manchester City defender Kyle Walker during Friday night’s FA Cup clash, in which City emerged victorious with a 1-0 win to reach the fifth round, with Nathan Ake scoring the decisive goal.

Notably, they achieved their first win at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and scored their first goal there. City played dominantly, possessed the ball, created numerous scoring opportunities, and ultimately outperformed Tottenham.

Ruben Dias and Ake joined forces for a goal, which resulted from an error made by goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. Timo Werner struggled to get past Kyle Walker, who firmly held his ground throughout the match, according to Cascarino. Walker managed to overpower Werner despite his impressive speed and strength.

In an interview on talkSPORT, Cascarino expressed that Werner appeared frightened and lacked the usual intensity he possessed back in Chelsea.

Cascarino said: “Timo Werner on the other side, honestly Nat, he was frightened of Kyle Walker. When you’re up against Kyle Walker you know what he is, he’s incredibly strong and quick. Timo Werner’s quick, but he stood out on the left side, and was never, ever a threat.

“He actually looked worse than what he was at Chelsea. He looked frightened to death of Kyle Walker.”

Repurposing the clip, City were solid defensively and solidified the right side with Walker’s impenetrable performance. Walker, a £175,000-a-week player, effectively neutralized Werner, reaffirming his reputation as a formidable opponent.

Despite having faced challenges in his game earlier, Walker’s speed and strength remain an imposing barrier for any winger.

As for Werner, his struggle against Walker further highlighted the defender’s superiority in a position marked with strength and agility. To summarize, there is a difference between being scared of an opponent and simply being outperformed by them.

Walker’s commanding performance spoke volumes about his capabilities against the best of attackers.
