Crystal Palace, Everton, and West Ham United are all interested in having 28-year-old Manchester City midfield star Kalvin Phillips in their ranks.
According to a report by Sky Sports, Crystal Palace, Everton, and West Ham United are all pushing for the services of Kalvin Phillips. The 28-year-old midfield star is surplus to requirements at Manchester City, and they are ready to negotiate his departure. But his £135,000-a-week wages might play spoilsport.
Kalvin Phillips and his Manchester City Frustrations
Kalvin Phillips’s move to Manchester City has not gone down well. He came up the ranks at Leeds United and proved himself in the Premier League to earn himself a move to Pep Guardiola’s team in the summer of 2022. Since joining City, he has only featured in 31 matches, and the majority of his appearances have come off the bench.
The treble winners were ready to part ways with him in the summer, but he wanted to fight for his place. But, nothing changed over the past six months as he has only featured in ten matches and has been on the pitch for just 318 minutes.
The player has now decided to part ways with the treble winner. While Manchester City would prefer to sell the 28-year-old, they have not ruled out the possibility of a loan deal. Notwithstanding, they will be looking for a loan feel of around £5 million and would want most of his £135,000-per-week wages paid by the club that wants him.
Where Next?
According to recent reports, Newcastle United have abandoned the race. While several clubs have made initial approaches, Everton, West Ham United, and Crystal Palace are three Premier League clubs pushing hard for his services.
Crystal Palace are fighting for survival, and they have not been able to keep things tight at the back. As a result, they are looking to sign a defensive midfield star who can form a shield in front of the backline, especially with Cheick Doucoure on the sidelines. So, Crystal Palace feel Phillips will be an ideal fit as he has enough experience of playing in the Premier League.
Everton are also looking to avoid relegation but they cannot buy players nor can they pay any loan fee. While Everton feel the 28-year-old can help them turn things around, they will first have to offload someone given their huge financial problems.
As far as West Ham are concerned, they have a long-standing interest in the Manchester City midfield star. But his £135,000-a-week wages could prove to be a hurdle in any potential deal. West Ham have signed quite a few players from the money raised by selling Declan Rice. But, they are still on the lookout for another defensive midfield star, and Phillips is someone they admire.
With Crystal Palace, Everton and West Ham all keen, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in the race for the 28-year-old’s signatures.
