Anthony Elanga recently made comments about Joao Cancelo that involved Manchester City duo John Stones and Josko Gvardiol. The Nottingham Forest player shared his thoughts on this matter on TikTok. Elanga was playing a game on TikTok where random footballers pop up on the screen, and they must be placed in order of first to tenth. During this game, he placed Cancelo above Stones and Gvardiol. Elanga even seemed to mutter “dead player” under his breath when Gvardiol appeared on the screen, suggesting he does not rate the £77.6m defender very highly.
Gvardiol, who Jamie Carragher feels has struggled at times this season, was placed at the bottom of the list. Elanga was more complimentary towards Stones, describing him as a “good player” when speaking on TikTok, but Cancelo still came above the pair of them in second place.
Joao Cancelo is currently on loan at Barcelona after spending the second half of last season at Bayern Munich. There are reports that his attitude has angered Guardiola, and Manchester City will likely sell the 29-year-old for just £26m this summer. His agent, Jorge Mendes, has confirmed that Barcelona hope to sign his client on a permanent basis. Therefore, it seems likely that Cancelo has already played his final game for Manchester City.
Elanga’s comments on TikTok have sparked discussions about the future of Cancelo, Stones, and Gvardiol at Manchester City. His rankings and remarks have brought attention to the potential departure of Cancelo and the impact it could have on the squad. It remains to be seen how these developments will unfold, and what the future holds for these players at Manchester City.
