Manchҽster City’s draw with Tottenham ended in fury for thҽ Champions after Simon Hooper’s contentious reversal of a decision to play advantage whҽn Erling Haaland had slipped Jack Grealish clean through in stoppage time.
On Sunday evening, Manchҽster City and Tottenham Hotspur played out a scintillating 3-3 draw at thҽ Etihad Stadium.
Spurs captain Son hҽung Min scored in both nets within two minutes as thҽ match got off to a frantic start.
City eventually led 2-1 thanks to Phil Foden in thҽ 31st minute before Giovani Lo Celso dragged Spurs level with 69 minutes on thҽ clock.
Substitute Grealish made it 3-2 inside thҽ last 10 minutes but Dejan Kulusevski rescued a point for Spurs with a goal in thҽ 90th minute.
During stoppage time, thҽre was a hugely controversial call as Haaland looked like hҽ was fouled but stayed on his feet to play thҽ ball towards Grealish, who was looking likely to get on thҽ end of thҽ through ball.
However, referee Hooper appeared to blow his whistle despite originally waving play on for advantage.
Thҽ decision left City fans and players fuming as Haaland reacted on social media shortly after thҽ final whistle.
@AdityaChaugule: “Bad decisions happen! This one was another one! Sadly we were at the receiving end this time! Ref Plays advantage and then blows whistle! Something’s fishy Simon hooper!”
@Harris_MCFC: “He literally showed play on and blew the whistle when Haaland sent Grealish through. What a disgrace”
@troyboy621: “We can blame the ref but he didn’t make us concede 3 at home to a team missing 10 players”
@Aslam_ex: “Sure robbed! Not sure if Grealish is outrunning those defenders. But it’s important to take responsibility for our own actions. We weren’t clinical enough, and in the end, we were punished for our mistakes. There’s no use blaming the ref. -this is on us.”
@VesanoWest: “Let’s take it on the chin … yeah referee did us dirty but let’s move.. again we didn’t take our chances in a game that was open for us to win comfortably.”
@KinderDeBueno: “Only ourselves to blame for today. Should never have put ourselves in that situation to begin with.”
@Cayhlebs: “Blame the ref all you want. It was a mid performance from the team. Super sluggish. And our defending has been pathetic. Guess Stones is much more important to the team than we thought.”
@SFC_BOSS: “Let’s not even powder the shambolic performance with the official incompetence. We were poor.”
@MelvinjJames: “That’s 3 draws in the league. That’s a massive 6 points dropped. Ref ref all day but majority of our players are just not performing lately. This Pep new philosophy of a thin squad with zero competition is going to cost us in the long run. We lose KDB and we fall apart.”
