Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Tajon Buchanan as Riyad Mahrez’s long-term replacement on the right wing.

After making an impression with the New England Revolution in Major League Soccer, the Canadian winger joined Brugge in 2021. Before joining the Belgian club, he played 57 games for the MLS side, scoring 10 goals and providing 10 assists.

The 24-year-old has made an impression in Belgium and has evolved into a mainstay in the starting XI since the start of last season, making 30 appearances across all competitions, including appearances in all six Champions League matches during their run to the knockout stages during the 2022/23 campaign.

Manchester City have been linked with a move for Club Brugge wing-back as the January transfer window approaches.

Italian media outlet TV Play reported on Manchester City’s interest in the youngster claiming that Pep Guardiola has spoken to the player in regards to a potential move to the Etihad.

Now, according to The Daily Star, Pep Guardiola wants Club Brugge winger Tajon Buchanan in January as he looks to strengthen Manchester City’s bid to defend their Premier League title.

Club Brugge is expected to face increasing pressure to sell, with City planning a January bid. According to reports, it could take a whopping £50 million offer to get the ball rolling.

Pep Guardiola has finally found a replacement for Riyad Mahrez?

Guardiola has been without a regular replacement since losing Riyad Mahrez to the Saudi Pro League last summer, with the likes of Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden filling in. Buchanan, who can also play as a right wing back, meets Guardiola’s requirements.

Tajon Buchanan is a young player who can fill a variety of roles. This season, he has mostly played as a wing-back for Club Brugge. When needed, he can also play in midfield.

While Tajon Buchanan is only a reported link to Manchester City at this time, he appears to be a player who could fit into Pep Guardiola’s squad. The City Manager could make use of his versatility, potential, and ability.

After a string of poor results, City will be hoping that the potential acquisition of Buchanan will help them push on in the second half of the season. The Citizens have lost their last four Premier League games, including a 1-0 loss to surprise package Aston Villa in midweek.
