“We’ll see later” – Manchester City star opens up on the possibility of heading to Saudi Arabia

Manchester City defensive midfielder Rodri has opened up on his future at the Etihad Stadium, as well as the prospect of a move to Saudi Arabia in the coming years.

The midfielder has been a lynchpin for his Catalan manager since he arrived at Manchester City in 2019, but the 27-year-old has been at the height of his powers over the last two seasons.

The Spain captain played a vital role in helping the English champions secure a historic treble at the end of last season, and had a starring role in the Champions League final – which saw him score the only goal against Inter Milan in Istanbul, and later named Player of the Tournament.

Rodri’s enduring importance to Guardiola’s side has been particularly heightened in recent weeks after he picked up a red card against Nottingham Forest and received a three-match ban.

Man City have failed to win any of their three domestic ties without the midfield powerhouse, losing to Wolves and Arsenal in the Premier League, and exiting the Carabao Cup against Newcastle.

The midfielder has been speaking El Partidazo de COPE about his career and where it may take him in the coming years.

The Manchester City midfielder made it very clear that he is not a player to actively seek new opportunities while playing for his current club.

“I have to tell you that I am a person who tries to enjoy the moment. I don’t look around,” he said.

“I didn’t have the idea or imagine that I could play in the Premier League and then once you get here, well, the truth is that everything has been very positive. It is an experience that I am living very intensely.

“Spain is my country, my political culture, where I was born. Obviously, we’ll see because, I’ve already said it, football is very changeable. I am a player who moves around a lot.

“What attracts me most is the sporting aspect; I want to win and that’s what I’ve always been working for. Obviously, that’s why I came here. At the moment I’m very happy, we’ll see later.

“I think it’s very complicated (Saudi Arabia). It would be very complicated to join a project like Arabia because, as I told you, my priority in football is ambition, it is sporting ambition, individual ambition, collective ambition and at the moment Arabia is not there.”
