Report: Man City prepare to make major exit call with Pep Guardiola concerns on the rise

Manchester City are reportedly concerned about the injury record of Kevin De Bruyne, and may not offer him a new contract when his current one expires as a result.

De Bruyne, 32, is currently sidelined with a serious hamstring injury he sustained on the opening day of the 2023-24 Premier League season.

As per Transfermarkt, the midfielder has already missed a total of 17 games this year after suffering three different injuries, including illness and a foot injury.

It appears that those in charge of City could make a shock decision on the future of the Belgium international.

According to Football Insider, the Premier League champions will consider shelving contract extension talks if the Belgian’s injury problems worsen.

The report claims that should De Bruyne’s body continue to let him down, there are no guarantees he will be offered the chance to stay at the Etihad beyond his current deal, which is set to expire in 2025.

De Bruyne joined City from German side Wolfsburg back in 2015 and has since established himself as one of the world’s best players.

He has long been one of City’s most important assets. In 358 games for them, he’s scored 96 times and provided 153 assists. Indeed, he’s cultivated a reputation as one of the best providers in the Premier League.

The Belgian, who according to Spotrac, earns £400,000-per week, is currently fourth on the league’s all-time assists list, on shy of Wayne Rooney’s 103.

The Belgium international has also lifted 16 major trophies while with Manchester City, including last season’s remarkable treble.
