Alan Shearer has lavished praise upon Manchester City maestro Bernardo Silva for his sumptuous display against Manchester United.
Erling Haaland may have grabbed headlines with two goals and an assist as Manchester City ran out 3-0 winners at Old Trafford on Sunday night. But Bernardo Silva was the engine room for City against Manchester United who have become one of his favourite opponents.
Silva was at the heart of everything the champions did well, and he capped his display with a delightful assist as his floated cross to the back post was headed in by Erling Haaland.
Alan Shearer was seriously impressed by Bernardo Silva, who put on yet another masterclass in a big game for Manchester City against Manchester United.
“How good is Bernardo Silva? He is a manager’s dream, isn’t he? You never hear of him, I would guess he never complains, never moans yet, wow, he’s like a little magician, isn’t he?”, he said.
“He never gives the ball away!”
Consequently, Bernardo is among four City players named in the Team of the Week selected by Alan Shearer, the Premier League’s record goalscorer and Hall of Fame inductee.
“He was on another level. Crossed for Haaland’s second and was the best player at Old Trafford”, he said.
Alan Shearer was right to single Bernardo Silva out as the standout player for Manchester City on the day. Time and again, he reminds the world why he is well and truly an elite player.
Branded as ‘irreplaceable’ by Pep Guardiola, the 29-year-old was impeccable on the night with his silky moves, second to none ball distribution skills, exceptional ability to exploit the spaces and an extraordinary work ethic. He capped off an impressive performance with an assist for Erling Haaland’s second goal.
On a night where City as a team was on another level, Silva was superb. It’s surprising how underrated the Portuguese is in world football. Pep Guardiola tried to give an explanation for it in his post-match press conference.
“I could say how good he is but I’d spend ten minutes talking about what Bernardo means for me and this team. He’s so good in all departments, all departments, we are in love with him,” Guardiola said.
For a player who came close to leaving the club in the last couple of seasons, he showed at Old Trafford just why City will be glad to have him continue at the Etihad Stadium for some more years.
