Manchester City have been keeping track of the progress that Xavi Simons has been making away from Paris Saint-Germain, according to a report.
PSG made a surprising move to re-sign Xavi Simons in the summer. The Ligue 1 giants exercised a buy-back clause in his PSV contract and convinced the 20-year-old of the project they were building in Paris.
Simons joined RB Leipzig on loan immediately after completing his PSG move, but that decision has already paid dividends.
Three goals and four assists in six games show how magnificent his form has been, and PSG would like him to continue on that route.
While he continues to shine on loan at Leipzig, clubs are showing an interest in signing him ahead of the next season.
According to 90 Min, Manchester City and Barcelona are among the top teams interested in signing Xavi Simons next summer.
The report claims the Premier League champions were monitoring Simons as early as last season.
The report, however, brings out some disappointing news for the Barcelona administration. They reveals that PSG are impressed by Simons’ high quality and have decided to count on him in the coming years.
They believe that the experience of playing in Germany will help him hone his skills and hope that Simons will be ready to play with the first team by the 2024-25 campaign.
A sale to Manchester City or Barcelona is thus likely ruled out. In fact, the Parisiens will likely not listen to any offers even from RB Leipzig who are currently nurturing the player.
