Manchester City fans have been reacting to the performance of Jack Grealish against Young Boys in the Champions League.
In recent weeks, there seems to have been plenty of discourse around whether the treble-winner is set to lose his place in City’s line-up due to Jeremy Doku’s electric start to life at the club.
Even Pep Guardiola has admitted that Jack Grealish has had a slow start to the season at Man City.
Perhaps understandably so as well, considering the Belgian international is a genuine touchline winger and has looked like the real deal from minute one.
The £100million man returned to the starting XI for Wednesday’s 3-1 Champions League win at Young Boys after being a substitute for last Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League triumph over Brighton.
Jack Grealish seems to have blocked out all the question marks surrounding his name as he put in a promising performance against Young Boys.
The Englishman emerged as the Sky Blues’ primary chance creator in the first 45 in particular.
Time and again, Grealish put the ball on a plate for his teammates but unfortunately for him, their wasteful finishing let him down.
Grealish faded in the second half, and inadvertently denied City a goal when he miscontrolled the ball on to his arm before playing in Julian Alvarez whose calm finish was disallowed by VAR.
He ended up playing the full 90 minutes as Guardiola looked to ensure the wide attacker gets back into his rhythm ahead of a busy period of fixtures.
Manchester City fans delivered mixed verdicts on the performance of a player who often splits opinions.
@itsxnaitik: “Jack Grealish putting all the doubts some fans had to bed after this performance”
@renren_rowe: “Grealish was excellent today. I hope now everyone shuts up with the comparisons with Doku. Both damn good footballers playing for us. We’re blessed ”
@Michael76851525: “Grealish might have some silverware to show, some of which he didn’t really win. But his game has gone backwards under Pep.”
@AlaeEdine13: “It’s so obvious Grealish doesn’t contribute anything to the team. On the contrary, he rather makes us worse.”
@DarkestJonatha1: “Grealish was better at Villa though. He is playing with quality players and still can’t score or create enough goals at City..”
@JKuretski: “It’s rough being a Grealish fan. Loved his play today. I’m glad to see his return to form and hope he continues being included in the starting lineup.”
@ese9531: “Grealish always kills our ball possessions and it’s actually crazy”
@LNobbins: “This was such an important game for Grealish. Been a lot of discourse about his future at City, but I thought he was back to his best tonight. Denied 2 assists by his teammates and a huge threat with and without the ball. The way he attracts opposition players is mesmeric.”
