‘Accept it’ – Pep Guardiola sends blunt VAR message to Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp replay claim

As the fallout continues from Liverpool’s controversial defeat against Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has weighed in on the VAR mistake that denied the Reds a legitimate goal.

The incident in question occurred when Luis Díaz’s goal was incorrectly ruled out by VAR, leading to a 2-1 loss for Liverpool.

The VAR officials at Stockley Park made a “significant human error,” as evident from the audio footage revealing miscommunication between the on-field referee and the VAR hub.

Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, expressed his frustration during a press conference and said that a replay of the match would be fair, if highly unlikely.

Guardiola, when asked, failed to be drawn on the ongoing conversation surrounding the technology and has said the outcome is “done” as the mistake has to be “accepted.”

“I said before the game in the Champions League, so it’s done. It was a mistake, accept it,” he told reporters.

“It’s always difficult, humans can make mistakes but the machines have to do it – the VAR is there to reduce that (mistake).

“All the humans make the mistakes, we do.

“At the end, the machines had been (introduced) for human beings so it’s a mistake, hopefully it’s finished here, getting better and improve (from) that.

“The Premier League or people from VAR will improve at that to avoid and the reason it’s there is for a fair game.

“The VAR was implemented to make our game more right, hopefully will be better in the future.”
